We are gearing up for our first market of the year- The Main Street Market.  It is one of our favorite markets to be a vendor for and an even better market to attend and SHOP.  Since this is our third time, I thought I would give you some tips for making the most of the day!

First call your girlfriends- set the date and get your tickets.  Make a plan for the roadtrip to Rockford. This is an enormous event.  It draws in thousands of shoppers. Getting your tickets ahead of time means that you don’t have to wait in the LONG line for tickets the day of the event.  Instead you can walk in and get to shopping!

The Specifics

This market takes place twice a year- once in the spring and again in the fall.  There are over 150 vendors from all across America selling their handmade artisans and vintage goods.  There is food and music and shopping- What’s not to love?

The market is nestled throughout the Midway Village Museum- a historical Victorian Village.  (https://www.facebook.com/RockfordHistory/?fref=ts) The setting begs you to wonder and shop and take in the old world charm.

It is the Midwest- be ready for any weather.

Being an open air market- you will want to pack for the weather- bring sunscreen, bug spray, extra layers, hats, umbrella, whatever the weather is calling for.  If you are from the Midwest you are probably used to be being prepared for anything.

Plan ahead

Before I go to any market, I check out my house.  What am I looking for? What walls are bare? What tables or nooks could use a little something?  Then I measure these spaces- especially the walls. I put this information in the app- Google Keep so I always have it with me.  You will be overwhelmed by all there is at the market- having somewhat of a plan is helpful and keeps you focused.

From Earrings to Furniture….

At the market you will find vendors of all kinds, clothing, jewelry, antiques, wall art, furniture, you name it.  The awesome part- Two Men and a Truck is available on site to bring your large treasures to your home. If you live within 20 miles they will deliver it for $25 per piece.  If you live further than that, you will have to get an estimate.

Food Trucks

The Food Trucks are amazing!  There is a whole area dedicated to food trucks.  With items like coffee, popcorn, fire oven pizza, roasted corn, cupcakes, drinks, sandwiches, brats and hamburgers…their is something for everyone.  Then be sure to have packed a blanket or grab a picnic table to enjoy your lunch among the trees, fields, and Victorian buildings.

Be Patient and Spread the Love

This is one of the best markets in the Midwest.  In fact Country Living Magazine and Flea Market Magazine has named this market one of the must attend events in the US.  It draws huge crowds of people. Be patient. Just enjoy the day with your girlfriends, take in the atmosphere. While you wait, take photos of your finds, upload them to your social media, and tag the vendor.  Get pictures with your favorite vendors. YOU are the reason we do this and this small act is the perfect way to show your support for their businesses.

This open aired market is hosted by the Urban Farmgirl.  If you have not heard of her- check out her shop here- https://urbanfarmgirl.com/
