Last week I had the opportunity to attend Rachel Hollis’ movie event “Made for More” with some girlfriends. We went out for dinner and attended the movie. I left feeling motivated and ready to make some changes- ready to stop believing the lies in my own mind.
I have been following Rachel and Dave Hollis for some time on social media. Her latest book, Girl Wash Your Face, was soul searching, mind-opening, and life changing. All the lies we tell ourselves are SO untrue- “I am not enough.” “I am a bad mom.” “My kids don’t like me.” “My life is a mess.” “Everyone around me is prettier, thinner, smarter, more successful (add your own word here) than me.”
ALL LIES! Chapter by chapter Rachel breaks down these lies and shares her own struggles and how she works to overcome these negative messages we tell ourselves. You can get a copy of Girl Wash Your Face Here.
Made for More was a movie the couple produced to bring their Rise conference to the masses. There is one more chance to go see it on August 13, 2018. I HIGHLY recommend it. Connect with the some women- every one of them needs to see this! And then plan a time to talk and drop the defenses and tell your story- it is worth telling.
The night could have gone on. But at the end we talked about those messages- I shared how I struggle with those messages of self doubt all the time. How breaking that cycle takes work every day! I am going to share with you what has started to work for me- that is everyday I write down three things I am thankful for and everyday I use my whole being to put gratitude out into the world by thinking about those things as hard as I can for just a minute. Whether it be my husband or daughters and family or friends or something as simple as ice cold water to drink on a hot day. This act everyday has made a difference- you cannot be angry when you are grateful. You cannot be jealous when you are grateful. You cannot be depressed when you are grateful.
The second thing I do everyday is listen to podcasts from inspiring people sending positive messages. In this blog post, I want to share my favorites. I would love to know yours- comment below or post your favorite on my facebook page- Kim Schaaf with Three Painted Birds.
